One day a man sent his son to the market to buy a pair of black shoes, he gave him size 10 but when the boy went to the market he found a beautiful but expensive one and said to himself “I will add some money to it and get it for my daddy.” It sure was a great shoe but the size was 11. To him, his father can still fit in it if he wears socks. He did it from a kind heart and even spent extra money from his pocket but his father was not pleased with it, because he failed to listen to simple instruction.

In life, as the Bible says,”To obey is better than sacrifice”1 Samuel 15:22.

Many times we do things our own way, failing to heed to the exact instructions of God. About a year ago, the Lord used me to minister healing to a Muslim, he believed and was healed in Jesus name. Occasionally I would send him videos to watch and messages to read, but the Lord said to me,”You have failed, because that healing was to win his soul for Jesus.” To me, I didn’t want to force him but the mistake is that he had witnessed the healing power of God and would have received Jesus. I pray in Jesus name that may we not fail God while busy working for Him.

When Jesus was with disciples, he sent the 12 to “Backslid believers”

Matthew 10:5-7 these twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’

So note : The 12 were sent to the lost sheep. Just as we have Christians that have backslid.

He sent the 72 to “the gentiles/unbelievers.” In Luke 10:2-3 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

NOTE: Lambs among wolves (Gentiles) because they don’t believe and can possibly attack you.

So the difference is that the 12 were sent to backslid believers while the 72 were sent to total unbelievers. So the 12 representing leadership (title holders can evangelize around backslid believers) while the 72 representing the church members must be trained and sent out to win more souls..

However, when Jesus was leaving the disciples, He gave them a new assignment, which is “Making disciples”

You see, Jesus here was talking to former fisher men, and ordinary people He had picked, trained and empowered to be ministers (DISCIPLES) and His assignment to them is simple “Same way you were ordinary but I took you through a process of follower-ship, prayers and etc to transform you into being disciples, I expect you to go to all nations, pick ordinary people and make them just like you too. “

To win soul is to bring people to the knowledge and acceptance of Jesus Christ but Jesus wants to see progress in such people, making them soul winners, healers and teachers also. It is not enough to have an increased church membership, Jesus expect the new converts to become soul winners also. To make disciples is to duplicate yourself in people. Same gifts and ministry you have must be impacted on the people God sends your way. Teach and train them to be disciples, capable of bringing up other disciples too. May the Lord help us.

Beloved, I pray the Holy Spirit of God speaks to your heart and explains in depth why you need to make disciples. When more disciples are made, we can sure take the world for Jesus.
